Description

Sweet (Jamaican) pepper is the fruit of the Myrtle family tree, collected at the beginning of ripening and dried at a certain temperature. The taste and aroma of allspice resemble a mixture of spicy cloves, black pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg. Just a few peas serve as a wonderful seasoning for soups, broths, hot dishes and cold snacks from fish, vegetables, meat and offal. Allspice is used in a variety of sauces, pickles and marinades. It is often added to tea, punch, mulled wine, hot chocolate, and in ground form - in some types of bread and sweet pastries. Since the spice slowly reveals its flavor, it is better to put it in the dish in advance. Pepper should be stored in a dark, dry, cool place, using a container with a tightly closed lid.
