Description

Rapitala Syrah DOC (Rapitala Syrah DOC) is a fine and silky red wine produced in Sicily. Syrah grapes are harvested in mid-September, then the wort is fermented in stainless steel vats. After that, the wine is aged on the lees to give it a complex aroma and structure. Part of the syrah matures in oak barrels with a capacity of 500 liters for 1 month. In 1968, Hugh Bernard, Comte de la Gatineau, an officer of the French Navy, married Gigi Guarrasi, a descendant of one of the noble families of Palermo. The couple chose for themselves an ambitious and exciting mission — to modernize the cellars destroyed by the earthquake in Valle del Belice. The count's main interest was the reconstruction of vineyards and estates, and three decades ago he began planting venerable French varieties along with autochthonous vines of Sicily at the Rapitala winery. Today, their son Laurent continues the family business with the same care and passion in cooperation with the largest wine company in Italy — Gruppo Italliano Vini.
