Sweet clover (Melilótus officinalis) is a biennial plant of the legume family, found everywhere, stem height – up to 2m, blooms from early summer to autumn. Honey plant. Very popular sweet clover honey, with a subtle vanilla flavor. Coumarin reduces systolic blood pressure, increases the content of leukocytes in the blood, normalizes blood circulation, has expectorant and anticonvulsant properties, sometimes used as a laxative. It is used in the treatment of varicose veins and as an adjunct for thrombophlebitis. Externally – as compresses for superficial hemorrhages, sprains and bruises. Infusions – for bronchitis, edema, as a sedative for insomnia. Contains: coumarin (up to 0.9%), lactone, coumarin acid, dicumarol, melilotin, essential oil, mucus, organic acids, etc. Methods of application and preparation. Infusion: 1 tsp. chopped herbs, 200 ml. boiling water, let stand for 2 hours, strain. Take 5-15 ml., 3-5 times a day, as a sedative. For other symptoms – on the recommendation of a specialist, from 1 tbsp. l. infusion Tincture (for external use): 2 tablespoons of herbs per 200 ml of vodka, insist for 14 days, strain. For headaches, rub the temples with your fingers, a few drops of tincture. Contraindications: the plant contains substances that can cause poisoning in case of overdose (may lead to headaches, insomnia, vomiting). It is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation, for children, in the presence of internal bleeding.
