Description

Cherimoya is a fruit tree, a species of the genus Annona of the Annonaceae family. Cherimoya's homeland is the foothills of the Andes of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. Ripe cherimoya fruits are edible fresh. When consumed, they are cut and the pulp is eaten with a spoon. In addition, the delicate pulp of cherimoya is added by chefs to a variety of dishes – mainly salads, desserts and drinks. It is also used in the manufacture of ice cream and sherbets. However, like avocados, when in contact with oxygen, the fruit begins to darken, so it is recommended to sprinkle the pulp with lemon or lime juice. Black cherimoya seeds are unsuitable for food, and therefore they are taken out of the fruit and thrown away.
